 | extra ● soundtrack ● scenes ● connections ● ooc basics [top.] NAME: Brett Adalaide Harper. GOES BY: Mainly Brett or Harper. AGE AND DOB: 27. 13th October, 1991. SPECIES: Halfbreed. Apparently related to Angels. CAREER: Hunter. CURRENT RESIDENCE: A disgusting little apartment. MARTIAL STATUS: Single. SEXUALITY: Difficult. She will have sex with both men and women. She's decided long ago that love, romantic love of happy ever afters was not going to happen for her. She think she has lost enough. Though she has felt it, or something which was about to be it, from both men and women. Or one of each respectively, they both touched her heart and Brett doesn't think of herself as anything but herself. ETHER: She isn't actually good or well versed in using the Ether though she is capable. There is nothing quiet about Brett. She usually slams into the Ether with no warning. A rush of heat and a sharp pain mostly. She does try and slip on quietly it just doesn't work usually. Brett is like the first burn of alcohol down your throat, the brush of a lovers kiss against your pulse and then the sharp tang of burning which overpowers all. supernatural [top.] ABILITIES Where some Watchers may have many gifts Brett really has one but the one she has is pretty fucking powerful. Her ability lies within the energizing, containing and releasing of energies. On a very, very basic level she can stir the energy within a object, or as she likes to use bone, and make it volatile, bend it to her will. She can change the shape, she can not making it into something else but she can making it severely hot or cold, make it explode or snap. Brett can turn this onto bone and blood, a deadly weapon to be sure however it does take a lot of concentration which you can not often get in a fight. Usually she uses her ability to pack an extra bit of strength into her punch, to 'squeeze' people which can be just a bit of a poke to majorly painful depending how much energy she puts into it. By and by she is a very power halfbreed, it's just a shame a lot of it takes so much concentration and patience, one thing she doesn't have. SKILLS: Beyond her fighting skills (which she boasts are fucking awesome) or some more unusual ones. From the ability to hot wire various vehicles (handy when you need to get away from some demon, vampire or other nasty) which she learnt from her dad and brothers. The ability to play a mean poker hand and snooker. In need of extra cash? She can get it pretty easily. The ability to through herself into any situation head first with no regard to her own safety. She can hold her alcohol well too. LIMITATIONS: A lot. Beyond the obvious mortality Brett is at times her own worst enemy. She has an inability to stop and think. She does and says the first thing which comes to her and she's all reactions. Then, she gets in trouble and goes 'Oh...fuck' but she never learns. A stupidly hot temper - she flips over the smallest thing. Brett lives her life with her heart somewhat on her sleeve. If she's pissed you will know, if she's happy you will know and so on. There are no pretences with her and she finds it very difficult to hide her emotions to any degree which can be problematic. It's very easy to get a rise out of her which is yet another issue. People, humans, the under dogs; Brett feels the need to fight for them no matter the cost to herself. She's very protective of those she loves and will put them first no matter the personal cost or injury. WEAPONRY TRAINING: A lot. The Harpers are a hunting family and have been for a good few generations and so it makes sense that their children a brought up the same way. Brett was aware of what was out there at an early age and was prepared for it from the go. While her initial training was tailored for children - dance, gymnastics - it all added to her fighting abilities. Brett much prefers hand to hand, a rough and tumble brawl over anything because she can use her abilities well though she is well versed in guns and other bits and pieces over the years. The best thing Brett ever learned was that used right anything was a weapon. When her ability became clear she was heavily trained with the staff due to her ability to charge the metal. She has a telescopic staff which her father made for her. Recently she's been training with swords. GROUP: The Watch. POSITION: Member; fighter/hunter. OPINION: Brett is all for the Watch and a lot of what she does comes from them. She generally moves around a lot which means she's been in contact with various chapters of the Watch and thinks what they do is extremely important. ALLIANCES: The Watch, her family, other hunters. RIVALRIES: Anything considered 'Dark'. The Raidan and The Elari. Brett really, really dislikes the Elari. At least the Raidan are honest with their intentions, the Elari try to hide theirs behind good deeds and bullshit. appearance [top.] Brett could never, ever be described as girly. She's muscle and brawn with a tiny, tiny hint of beauty. She isn't ugly - far from it - but she definitely does not go out of her way to make herself look good. It's way too much effort and in all honesty she'd rather be out there killing things than worrying if her hair, make-up or clothes are clean. Brett isn't exactly tall - 5"5 - but she packs a mean punch. She's fun sized, not short. Brett trains a lot and she has a lean, athletic body which she often pushes much further than she should. She finds it difficult to know when to stop. Hair is naturally dark, naturally wavey and she barely does anything with it beyond washing it. At times she cuts it or shoves it back into a ponytail but...way too much effort. Clothing wise she's one of those people who is all about comfort. Tank tops, t-shirts and anything easy; she also has a thing for plaid shirts. Pants and never, ever skirts or dresses. She's a tomboy. DISTINGUISHING MARKS: As you can imagine Brett has a lot of scars and battle wounds from over the years. She is proud of every single one of them and will never go out of her way to cover them up. The fact is she's earned them and in her eyes that means she gets to show them off. She has a couple of tattoos too. The first is a feather and a flock of birds which is at the top of her back, along her spine. Each bird represents someone she has loved and lost and every time someone is killed she adds another bird. On her left wrist is a Japanese enso. personality [top.] Brett is, and always will be, a cocky, arrogant, little shit who has a huge heart. She's rough around the edges and tends to be a little bristly which means she can often rub people up the wrong way. Brett doesn't have much of a brain/mouth filter which isn't that great and is yet another reason why she gets into trouble so often. Loyal, hard working, fearless, stupid, brave, quick thinking, loud, brash, rude, kind, warm, loving, crude, brutish. There are so many ways you could describe Brett but usually she's the kind of girl who leaves you a little confused. She's all over the place and it's difficult to pin her down as anyone thing. She plays the part of roguish, tough cookie with a slap of sarcasm and a disrespect for authority well. The fact is she's actually a very smart, caring and considerate woman but when you grow up in the world she has you have to have a tough skin otherwise you won't last five minutes and Brett has lasted around 27 years so her skin is damn tough. There is a splash of impulsive recklessness to her which usually shines through when she's in protecting mode. Brett will go beyond the call of duty to protect someone; whether it be family, friends or a stranger in need. She refuses to sit by and let them swept along in the damaging waves of the supernatural world. She has grown up with a harsh hatred for most supernaturals but she's had it drilled in her from a young age that Demons and Vampires are bad and must be put down at any cost. She can definitely be blind to the good in supernaturals, finding it difficult to place them in a "neutral" or "good" column. She's a shoot first, ask questions later kind of hunter. Ruled by her heart in many, many ways. She has a tendency to get into arguments due to being a stubborn little cow. Very loyal and once you have gained that loyalty, respect and trust it is difficult to loose it. Brett doesn't allow many people into her life truly; she's learnt over the years it's easier to keep everyone at a distance rather than get hurt over and over. history [top.] FAMILY FATHER: Jackson Harper; deceased, killed by Samuel. The belief that one's path in life is pre-ordained, that one's life is already mapped out before they are born, that each and every path is already made. Does ones fate begin with their conception? Or does it span time and begin with their ancestors? Years and years before they are even considered, a twinkle within a twinkle. Brett Harper was born to be a Hunter. Why? Because her father was a hunter, and his dad and his dad and so forth. It was in her very blood, there was no fighting what had to be and would always be. Hunting was the Harper way and would always be the Harper way. Maria tried to keep them out of it, tried to let them lead normal lives but that didn't happen. None of the Harper kids kept out of the family business, it was just what they did. Brett came into the world one blustery winter day, 3:27 AM on the 13th October to be precise, and was the second daughter of Jackson and Maria Harper. As the Harpers, along with the Jansons, were a part of the Watch they tended to move around a lot. Staying in one place didn't really come with the job description; if you wanted to stay under the radar you moved around a lot. One good thing about this was how close Brett was able to get with her siblings and the Janson children. Despite moving around, forever learning about what was truly out there, Brett had a good childhood. It was one of love; a loud, raucous and chaotic place which is forever lively and noisy. The Harper's were always apart of The Watch, both Maria and Jackson. Where Jackson took on the role of Leader, a title picked up from his father, Maria looked after the wounded. They were brought up knowing exactly what was out there, they couldn't turn a blind eye to what went on in the world. All seven were brought up learning self defence, ways to keep themselves safe and taught all that there was to know about what was out there. There was so sugar coating the truth, no lies to make them feel better. The Harper household was, despite the war and the depression around them, a loud, raucous and certainly lively home. It was one of those houses teeming with family - they were a close knit bunch with siblings, cousins, uncles and aunts all over the place. Then of course there were then Jansens who, if you ask Brett, are practically family. They may as well be blood, especially with Brett and Alix, to Brett Alix is just another sister and she loves her no less than her real sisters. From a young age Brett was taught how to fight, how to live among the supernaturals of the world. She loved it, really loved it and if she could she would have trained at all hours of the day though her mother always saw to it that she got her chores done and her school work. They were all home schooled, with many additional subjects thrown in besides. She was fifteen when her mother told her she was dying. Maria had cancer. Cancer. They fought fucking demons and vampires, they killed darkness and her mother had fucking cancer. It took four months for it to steal her away, to take her mama from her. Four months and it was another bit of hurt on her soul, another scar for her to wear. It gave her a devil may care attitude, not scared of anything 'cause life was short and you had to grasp it and ride it like a bull. Life was pretty mundane for the Harper-Jensan lot until Brett was a seventeen. She was a cocky, full of shit and tough as nails teenager. The families honesty made the world seem not quite so bad, it almost sugar coated it, or at least made Brett (and Alix) regard the world with a bit of a "nothing can hurt me" attitude. So, at seventeen and sixteen respectively the girls set out on their very own hunt. It didn't quite turn out as they both hoped. Oh, they found the demon but unfortunately it hit back a little harder than the girls expected. The two girls were captured, held for a few days by the demons. Brett and Alix being the hotheaded duo that they were weren't contented to wait for their families to rush in and instead began to find away out. The rescue half worked...as expected their families rushed in like knights in shining armour just as they were putting their plan into action and well, if you ask Brett they did nothing and it was all Alix and her. Clearly. Despite this failure of a first mission it did not deter either of the girls from hunting, really it merely added to their desire. Brett had a taste for danger and she wanted more. While her family was a little unsure about letting her hunting again, that first one really was a disastor, that did not stop her and soon enough she was a regular hunter along side Alix. Brett adored these years: hunting, drinking, sex? What more could she want? That happiness soon died though. When she was twenty-five she saw her brother turned into a vampire, a hunt gone wrong and she ran, leaving him to live or die. She had no idea if he truly survived, if he was truly turned. She was scared, alone and she had no idea what to do as she returned to Alix, she tried to ignore it. Days later she came home to find Jackson and Rosalie dead, a ransacked, blood soaked house and her brother waiting for her. Brett doesn't remember too much of that night - she remembers his teeth on her, him tasting her and her shooting him in the stomach. Most of all she remembers the temptation and ecstasy in his bite, the desire to give into him and become one of them. Brett survived that night, she isn't quite sure if her brother did though. Since the families have split, seperated in the hope to keep them all a little safer. The War was rough on them all, but they coped because they had to. It made Brett stronger, harder, more able to deal with the pain the world threw at her. She's been travelling with Alix since, her best friend, basically her sister and the two have hunted their way through much of America.
